ISSA Yacht Crew Course

This beginner’s course will help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a useful crew member on a sailing yacht.

This is a 4/5 day course teaching students to crew a blue water yacht.  This is very much a hands-on course that teaches your students by getting out on the water and doing it themselves; no previous experience or knowledge is necessary, and there is only a small theoretical component.  We use our two Farr 1104 yachts for this course. They are ocean going vessels and the students learn to handle the boats so by day 5 they are able to rig and derig the vessel, sail in all directions, trim sails well, handle the boat under engine and under sail . Additionally they will also learn how to assist in other important activities like anchoring, coming alongside in a marina berth or rescuing a man-overboard.

Yacht Crew Course 4/5 Days

Yacht Crew Course

Full detail of the Yacht Crew syllabus is available in the table below.  Our experienced instructors will guide your students every step of the way, ensuring they all have a rewarding and enjoyable experience as they learn.

By the end of the four days your students will be capable of sailing a small yacht in every direction it is possible to sail in. They will understand how to work as a part a crew and respond to the Skipper or Mates commands. The 5 day course ends with a trip to an outlying island or local bay. Students anchor in the bay at lunch and then have their packed lunch and usually a swim in the clear waters of tropical Thailand.  We sail back to base after lunch and conclude the course with a certificate from the school.
