The Keelboat Skipper Course for Teachers

A new course for Sail in Asia. The Keelboat Skipper course is a four-day, mostly hands-on course for teachers wishing to improve their Outdoor Education expertise by learning to sail one of our fleet of Farr-designed Platu 25's.

Our new course is set in Phuket's coastal waters of Ao Yon Bay and the surrounding Islands. Our Keelboat Skipper course is one of the most exciting courses we offer with a huge amount of the time spent on the water. Affordable and fun, these yachts offer everything you'd find in a larger yacht and more. If you learn to sail a keelboat well, moving onto a cruising, or racing yacht, is easy.

The course starts with a two-day, almost 100% Learn to Sail course and then on Day 3 you learn more advanced techniques such as anchoring, reefing under sail, heaving to, coming up to a mooring under engine and sail and of course Man Overboard. The full syllabus is to be found below.

Day 4 is spent on a final planned Day Trip, usually to an island. The great benefit of completing this course is that one can sign up for a Watch Keeper Flotilla Skipper course or be capable of joining a Flotilla holiday course.

This course is heavily discounted for teachers who wish to improve their Outdoor Education expertise.

IYT Keelboat Skipper Course for Teachers

Professional Development courses in Outboard Education are hard to find in Asia.

SIA is possibly the only authorised ISSA and IYT Training Centre that offers Professional Courses in Outdoor Education, for Teachers, in Asia. The Principal of Sail in Asia is a UK qualified teacher with over 30 years experience of teacher training, INSET provision, and Watersports Centre Management expertise. The joy of passing on Outdoor Education skills and knowledge is why SIA offers these courses. Students gain immeasurably on School journeys and if the teachers are competent practitioners at the OE activity it is hugely beneficial to learning, to relationships and to respect.
